You Gotta Read This

I am not a big book pusher. You know the guy, he walks up, opens his coat and says, "I got what you need right here."

This time it is different. I have found a couple of guys who have written about this Emerging thing, and what it is. The book is called So You Don't Want To Go To Church Anymore. They do a great job of explaining it, plus it is an easy read. Only 178 pages, with large print and large spacing. You can either buy it at Amazon if you like actual books, or you can download it for free here.

Thanks for the heads-up, Nate. I downloaded it a long time ago but forgot about it....

I read it...loved it.
It helped give words to all the things I've been processing for the last 7 years.
Hey, I read those posts you sent me the links for...sounds like we are on the same page in many ways.
It helps to find people walking out this process..
I go to a homechurch right now..and I really care about the people. But the theology they espouse...well, it often sucks.
They still want to jump on the "it's in the Bible so we have to obey it" train...which I jumped off of quite awhile ago.
So, it makes for some intense arguments sometimes....

I'm back again...
I just looked at your profile and noticed that you like some of the same authors that I do...which is cool cause I like finding new authors and maybe you have some to recommend.
I like Eddings, and Brooks...I love sci-fi and fantasy.
Have you tried Dennis L. McKiernan? He is like Brooks.
Also, Terry Pratchett. Funny, and challenging.
Got any authors to recommend?

Absolutely. David Gemmel, a british author that is just now finding his way to the states. CJ Cherryh, has some great stuff. Deborah Chester. I will give the ol book case a paruse, and see if there are some lesser knowns in there. Got about 500 books.

Now I've looked at David Gemmel's books...they have seemed dark. Are they? I'm not against that, I just like to know what I'm getting into.
I'll pick up some authors at the library.
Cool.
Thanks.

No not dark at all really. About the same as the Original Dragon Lance series.

Okay, I read some of those.
I look forward to trying them.
Have you read Tracey Hickman? I know he writes for the Dragonlance series, though I think there are many authors.
Have you tried George Lucas' series, The Shadow War Chronicles?
They are quite good.
:)
This is fun.
It's not that often I find someone who reads what I do...way cool.

Nate - thanks for directing people to this book. I just started reading it a couple of days ago and I can't put it down! So profound... so good...
